Toilet Paper - It just keeps getting smaller

Toilet tissue commercials use words like, soft, strong and absorbent. I propose a new word be added to the industries descriptive tool box, how about DAINTY. Come on it could happen, right?
It's like real estate code.  Cozy = Small, while still being desirable?

About 6 months ago I ran to the big box store to buy more essentials. I noticed the difference when I stuffed the package onto the bottom shelf of the grocery cart. Suddenly, I did not have to stuff quite as hard. I told my hubby then and there that I thought it was different. When I got home I made a comparison in the storage room and sure enough there was less there.

Apparently the T.P. industry has been hit by the "slimming" economy too. My current stock is down to 4" wide. Do you imagine the rolls getting so skinny that two will fit on the dispenser? Oh, My... Okay, maybe it won't go that far. Where will it stop? No one knows.

Thankfully, I am not the only one who has noticed this phenomenon. I found a post about this very issue from 2009. Apparently our trusted, but seldom discussed essential, has been slowly shrinking for some time now.

I am ever so hopeful that the T.P. industry finds my marketing advice helpful, as it is well meant.

  1. Ok, first "they" did it to our half-gallon of ice cream and now to TP?! Hmph!

Thanks so much for your very kind words on my blog. :)

  2. I know exactly what you mean! I feel like everyone is upping the price and using it to distract us from the fact that they're giving us less product too!

  3. You're so funny. But seriously, what an easy way to cut cost in hopes that the consumer won't notice.

  4. I love this post, told Garry everything shrinks, mayo, coffee, 16 oz to 13 and so on but prices just keep going up, the double roll looks like the single roll I grew up with.
