1940 Census - Are you Curious? Has the Bug Bitten You Yet?

Once upon a time I thought I thought genealogy was for old people.  Then as a young mother I was standing at the kitchen sink thinking about a branch of the family that I knew little about.  In passing I said a little prayer and asked how I could learn more about this branch of the family that I knew nothing about.  I did not think much more about it.  

One day the phone rang and a family member from back East was looking for my husband's father.  At first I thought the caller was a salesman and felt a little bit impatient.  But, as my husband talked to him I listened to the side of the conversation that I could hear and soon realized that this was someone from that mysterious branch of the family that had interested me.  This call increased my interest and I was bitten by the genealogy bug. 

I am so glad that I started to gather information when I did.  My search resulted in family mailing me pictures and sharing stories.  (I even made a friend!)  I was so excited.  I was getting to know my children's roots.  What an exciting ride!

But, wait, I thought genealogy was for old people!  No!  I can't tell you how many hours I sat with my baby on my lap at the computer searching for details.  And his naps became my golden hour. 

A couple of years ago I decided it was time to take a break as my life became increasingly crazy.  I turned to occasional indexing as a way to still be involved. 

Now as the time draws close for the 1940 census to become available my interest has again been ignited!  I am so excited to look at this census and enjoy the details that it will hold.  This brings me to my reason for today's post.  I hope I have not lost you yet.
