Something Old Becomes Something New - Refinished Table

My hair got dusty, my paint jeans acquired a new color, and the table is finally done!

My table is 18 years old and has seen toddlers to teens.

My wonderful husband helped with the sanding.

I coated it with Minwax Special Walnut.  But decided I wanted it darker, so I left the next coat on longer.

We painted the legs after my hubby had every spec of varnish sanded off of them.

Coming along... Can you see the cast iron stains from a long life of service?

I "visited" my table late one night.  I am so excited to have it done.  The table has 3 coats of polycrylic on it.

Here it is back in it's place.  Now to paint the benches.

  1. Wonderful job! I have never refinished furniture. I love the result, but dread the process. :)

  3. I am so glad the table and benches are done. I am so ready to be finished. When I took this on, sort of on a whim, I had no idea what kind of time investment this would require. But, if anything is undertaken with my husband it will be done right. :o)

  4. Beautiful! I admire people who refinish furniture. I sometimes have ideas of what something could look like, but have no idea how to do it and usually don't have the time since, like you said, it takes so long. Now you get to enjoy all that hard work by seeing it every day!
